Heron and Brearley - Jailbreak 2012
18 July 2012
Heron and Brearley Jailbreak 2012 took place on 13th and 14th July. 33 corporate teams were picked up from their place of work and arrested by IOM Police. Taken to Lord Street by Police Van they were processed and locked in the cells. Transported to Castle Rushen (guarded by G4s) locked in the dungeons then tried in Castletown Court. Judge Laurence Vaughan Willams handed out some very serious sentences and Prosecutor James Patterson from MannBenham prosecuted the criminals with gusto. Need I say there was no defence allowed !!!! The Jury tho put up a good fight and heckled and disagreed with the Judge, the sentences given and pretty much everything else. Michael Bonner the Mad Hangman and Lisa Kreisky, the mad hangmans wife, helped to carry out the dreadful sentences given. Beheading/Hanging and wet sponging in the stocks was decided for many of the criminals. Visitors to the Castle joined in and helped with the wet sponging (50p a go). All this was filmed by Blue Olive Productions for a DVD. Finally (and unexpectedly) Carole Male of Age Concern was put in the dock and tried – thankfully the sentence given by the Judge was that she must continue arranging Jailbreak each year !!!! Oh no....................... The prisoners escaped (with relief) and found their way to Glen Wyllin for a night under canvas. They were rewarded for their efforts with food/drink and cabaret by Mark Walton. After breakfast the following morning they had to make their way to Ardwhollan – completing a few fiendish tasks on the way. At Ardwollan they had to do various tasks and exercises (devised by Simon Jones of BOI) and were given points for these. After these tasks they had to find their way to The Bridge in Douglas for a buffet followed by a Quiz (marks taken into team total). The marks were then counted and the Heron and Brearley Jailbreak Shield was won by Team Nobles Nurses (an excellent effort by the girls). The team consisted of CLARE BETTISON,FIONA CAROLAN,KIRSTY STEVENTON We had two Junior Teams – THE CUBE and Team Air Cadets competing for the Jailbreak Junior Shield. The teams showed such initiative (cheating) and continually sabotaging the other teams efforts that we couldn’t decide whether to disqualify both teams but instead voted them joint winners of the Jailbreak Junior Shield. Teams taking part were Team Zurich International, Team Nobles Nurses, Team Nobles Doctors, Team Nobles Midwives, Team The Crescent, Team Appleby, Team HSBC International ( ast year’s winners), Team Heron and Brearley, Team Bad Intentions, Team Snap Crackle and Pop, Team The Cube, Team Air Cadets. So many local companies helped us .The event was sponsored by H & B, Spar, G4S, Tours IOM, Appetities, Blue Olive Productions, Manx Gas, Ye Olde Spitting Pig, Civil Defence, Harrison and Garrett Butchers, Ramsey Bakeries, Orry Lewin,Kirk Michael Commissioners, 440 Air Cadets.
