CHAT bus host appointed
04 May 2010
Age Concern Isle of Man has appointed Drew Hill CHAT (Community, Health, Advice and Training) bus host. Mr Hill, who has an engineering background and comes from Kilmarnock, moved to the Island from Jersey in 1987 where he had been employed as a coach driver, to work in motor sales at the Manx Independent. He joins Age Concern Isle of Man from Shoprite where he was a member of the customer services team. He said: ‘This is very much a change of career direction and a new challenge for me. In my role as CHAT bus host and driver I am looking forward to applying my engineering, driving and customer contact skills in new and exciting ways.’ Age Concern Isle of Man chief executive Penny Creighton MBE said: ‘Drew was made for the role of CHAT bus host. He’s brimming with ideas and enthusiasm. We’re all looking forward to working with him to develop the many ways in which this amazing new bus can benefit the community, such as serving as a one-stop central point where the public will have access to advice and information from around 680 charities operating in the Island. The bus will also act as a social hub, bringing generations and communities together.’ Mr Hill, 52, who is married with two daughters and lives in Onchan, has met the team at the charity’s Drinkwater Street, Douglas headquarters. ‘I hadn’t realised what an extensive operation Age Concern Isle of Man was. There are so many diverse services the charity provides, such as its Lifelong Learning computer training centres and its involvement with Meals on Wheels,’ he said. He has also been familiarising himself with the bus, for which it is proposed to issue a weekly timetable. ‘It’s fantastically well equipped and nothing like you’d expect inside. This is a new venture for all of us. We’re all working together to make it a great success and I’m sure the CHAT bus will go a very long way towards raising the profile of Age Concern Isle of Man.’ chatbus@ageconcerniom.com
