MEA and Age Concern Isle of Man – ‘Together We Can’

16 March 2010

The Manx Electricity Authority and Age Concern Isle of Man will be working closely together to assist the elderly in the Island.

MEA Chairman Quintin Gill MHK said, “The Authority remains committed to its vulnerable customer policy and continually works with customers who have concerns about their supply and also their bills.  Our relationship with Age Concern will continue to ensure that help and advice reaches those who need it within our community”.

Age Concern Isle of Man chief executive Penny Creighton MBE, who is also chairman of the CVO (Council for Voluntary Organisations), said: ‘I am heartened by the Authority’s pledge to work with us and our fellow third sector organisations to provide support for the more vulnerable members in the community.

‘There are those in our community – vulnerable and very often older people – who can find it hard to meet their heating bills. Against this background it is reassuring that the MEA has put in place a team to work with such customers to provide confidential support, advice and recommend payment options.

‘These measures have prompted me to extend an invitation to Mr Gill to attend a CVO meeting at which he will be able to gain a more global view of charities’ concerns and, importantly, where he will have an opportunity to reassure those organisations that the MEA has made ample provision to address any issues they might have.

‘We look forward to partnering with the MEA to identify and work towards a resolution of matters of mutual concern. In short, the third sector fully subscribes to the “Together We Can” approach.’
