Welcome to Age Concern Isle of Man

Penny Creighton MBE
Chief Executive

It’s a joy to be celebrating summer after the long dark winter…and it’s always a joy to be celebrating later life.

That’s what we at Age Concern Isle of Man aim to do for our clients – celebrate later life - in partnership with colleagues in the private, public and third sectors.

Later life is to be enjoyed – you have only to look at our clients socialising at our day care centres and lunch clubs, entering the digital age at our lifelong learning computer centres and coming on board our CHAT bus to realise that this is no mere strap line, it’s what underpins everything we do at Age Concern Isle of Man: supporting older people, safeguarding their independence and dignity, ensuring their voice is heard by the nation’s decision makers and campaigning to influence later life policy in the Isle of Man.

While we are fortunate to live in a very special place – the Isle of Man – we are not immune from uncertain economic times. Like every organisation Age Concern Isle of Man is faced daily with challenges brought about by the global downturn. Despite which we are determined not to compromise the range and quality of services we provide – a commitment that means we have to generate an income stream of at least £800,000 a year.

Undaunted we remain firm believers that later life is an exciting journey from which as much fun as possible should be extracted. Which is why, over the coming months, we will be putting the fun into fundraising with a calendar of events, some familiar, others making their début. As a taster of what’s to come we’re holding a glamour-fest of an evening - a ‘Sex and the City’ night on July 29 at the Mount Murray Hotel. A few days before that there’s Summertime – a lunchtime with wine, canapés and music on July 25, and on October 13 there’ll be an All-Star Big Dance Night in the Villa Marina. For more details, please call 613044 or email gillian.harvey@ageconcerniom.com.

Our autumn and Christmas programme is also taking shape and in between events there’s always our CHAT (Community, Health Advice and Training) bus, coming to a community near you. (Please visit ‘Useful Information’ for the schedule).

At Age Concern Isle of Man we’re continuing to raise standards…and with your help we’re continuing to raise funds.
